Having left San Francisco just in time to escape the 4.4 quake in the Bay area, Ashley and I decided to take a break in LA. 🤣 One of the attractions on our itinerary was the Griffith Observatory. I was skeptical of a trip to an observatory in the middle of the LA basin, but it was a beautiful place, complete with a planetarium, a 12 inch refractor, and Foucault’s Pendulum. Foucault’s Pendulum is a big swinging pendulum that was used back in the 1800s by some physicist dude to demonstrate the rotation of the earth. Pretty cool devices. Of course, you can learn all about them on Wikipedia.
The view from the observatory grounds is a near 360 panorama of the LA basin, including a birds eye view of the famous Hollywood sign. During our visit, the clouds were dark and brooding, probably to match my mood when driving in LA. 🙂 Whatever the case, they were quite interesting and, as I like to say, if you can make clouds the subject of a photograph, do it! So I did. Enjoy!
