Brrr…

This time yesterday, I thought I would be in Chicago right now in preparation for a three-day company meeting. If you’ve been paying attention to the weather lately…and who hasn’t…you know that would be a big challenge starting tomorrow when the predicted temperature in Chicago is zero degrees with a 20 mile per hour wind. I have not taken the time to Google what that means in terms of wind chill, but I’m pretty sure it would be scary low. Later in the week, things get worse. The low temperature predicted for Thursday in Chicago is -26 degrees F with a 10 mph wind. That is absolutely brutal! Even when I was in the Canadian Rockies once in December, I have not experienced cold temperatures that extreme. Even when I was in Siberia on a frozen lake in January several years ago, the conditions did not equal the predicted situation for Chicago later this week.

I know it sounds crazy, but I was actually looking forward to another extreme in my life. I was looking forward to going to Chicago. However, it didn’t make sense for dozens of people to travel into those conditions, so the meeting was canceled and I’ll experience this arctic air mass here in east Tennessee, which will not be nearly as impressive as going to Chicago but guaranteed to be fun nonetheless!

Speaking of cold, this gives me a chance to share an image from that January trip to a frozen lake in Siberia. I’m pretty sure I’ve shared images from this trip before, but it’s time for another. I hope you like it. Enjoy! And stay warm out there!

  1. Thanks for the shot! Since I’ve gone nearly 70 years without actually being in Siberia, this image helps to chill any urge to do so. It did inspire me to pour an extra dollop of Bailey’s in my cocoa!
