Good News/Bad News

Don’t you hate it when someone begins a sentence with, “Well, I have some good news and some bad news. Which do you want first?” Personally, I always go with the bad news first, so here goes.

My image processing class at UT on August 22 and 29 has been cancelled. This is the class I mentioned in a post several weeks ago. I noted that it had been converted to an on-line only class. I was pretty excited about the possibility of an online offering and the potential appeal to a more geographically diverse audience, but I just learned that we haven’t met the minimum number of attendees, so we cancelled it. Things change quickly in the COVID-19 era, but I think we’re all getting used to that and I’m OK with it. We’ll offer it again next year!

Now for the good news. See? It’s always better to start with the bad news. The good news is that I’m giving an online talk at the next meeting of the Southern Appalachian Nature Photographers (SANP). It will be offered through Zoom on August 25 at 7:00 pm EDT. The title of my presentation is “Confessions of a Digital Manipulator.” I intentionally selected a provocative title to get people’s attention and to stimulate a lively discussion. We’ll see if it works. You may not realize it, but if you take pictures with a digital camera, you’re a digital manipulator. To help make my point, our dear friend Ansel Adams would be an accomplished digital manipulator if he were alive today. How do I know? Well, you’ll have to wait and hear the presentation and I’ll explain why!

If you’re interested in attending, it might be possible. Since my presentation is sponsored by SANP, members have first dibs and attendance is limited to 100. If all SANP members attend, we’ll surpass the attendee limit. However, if spaces remain open at 7:00 pm, the good folks at SANP will allow me to invite non-SANP members. So, if you’re interested, send me an e-mail and we’ll go from there. My e-mail address is located in the header of my Facebook page.

Here are some images I’ll be sharing during the presentation. Enjoy!
